First Responders Activate New Propane Support Team PDF Print E-mail

Michigan’s propane industry is a safe industry, however, accidents can happen. That is why the Michigan Propane Gas Association (MPGA) created the Propane Emergency Response Network (PERN). PERN takes out the guesswork of handling a propane emergency in your area.

The MPGA teamed up with first responders and law enforcement officers to provide immediate expertise on handling propane emergencies, in addition to working under the authority of the incident commander. PERN supports firefighters, state police, local sheriffs, and Hazmat officials.

fredTwenty-five years ago, several local police organizations were unhappy with the level of representation they were receiving from their parent union. The desire for honest, professional Union representation was missing. In an effort to change that, these same locals banded together to form the Michigan Association of Police.

They approached Carl Parsell, the founder of the modern day police unions, and myself, to leave our then current positions to lead the new Union.

What a law enforcement union must provide members in today's world

In order to guarantee its members the highest level of employment protection that is absolutely necessary in today's world, a law enforcement officers' union must provide total representation. This means that a complex battery of resources and a broad spectrum of specialized expertise must be readily available, at all times, to every member of the organization. In other words, the union must be armed with complete service capacity and a dedicated staff of eminently qualified professionals who will consistently deliver these services in a timely and coordinated fashion.
