Endorsements announced for General Election

Informed voters are better able to identify the candidates who are most likely to share their views on the most important issues. This precept concisely explains the purpose of the Michigan Association of Police Organizations (MAPO) endorsements for the Nov. 5 General Election.

The list that follows this article provides essential information to members of the Michigan Association of Police and other MAPO-associated unions. It identifies the candidates whose track records indicate they are more likely than their opponents to take "favorable" positions on the issues that are most crucial to law enforcement officers and their families. Each endorsement was decided upon after comprehensive research and review - a process to which MAPO's legislative consulting firm, Karoub Associates, made a substantial contribution.

"The central focus is on promoting the goals of all MAP and other MAPO members," said MAP Executive Director Fred Timpner. "Every candidate was considered regarding the isses that impact law enforcement officers professionally and personally. A lot of analysis and study went into determining these endorsements.

"Simply stated, while we all will be voting in our own vital interests, MAPO strongly believes that those interests will be best-served by the candidates it has endorsed."

Timpner emphasized a very familiar and always essential message: "Our opinions count only when they are counted as votes, so all of us must make sure we go to the polls Nov. 5. The results of this election will affect our work and our families for years to come."
