Every police officer knows that there's nothing more valuable than experience when it comes to dealing with a challenge. This principle applies to police union staffers as well as law enforcement professionals. Troy Scott, who recently joined MAP's staff as a labor relations specialist, brings a wealth of experience in both fields to the table. For example, he:
MAP Executive Director Fred Timpner, when announcing the staff addition, said the labor relations expertise Scott developed in these jurisdictions will pay important dividends to the members he represents in his new role. Scott's description of his background bears out that assessment. "While working on the local executive boards of Brownstown and Oakland University, I was involved in negotiations of several contracts and I investigated numberous disciplinary grievances," he said. "I think it's worth noting that MAP is the only union I approached and requested to be part of. I firmly believe that Fred and the rest of the staff at MAP display the character, integrity and professionalism that the members of local unions have come to expect." "These responsibilites provided me with considerable experience in the areas of collective bargaining, grievance procedure and arbitration." Scott emphasized that his specific ambition was to work for the Michigan Association of Police. "I approached Fred in January of 2001 and inquired if he needed any help. Later in the year, he called me and asked if I was still interested in working for MAP. I jumped at the opportunity! "I think it's worth noting that MAP is the only union I approached and requested to be part of. I firmly believe that Fred and the rest of the staff at MAP display the character, integrity and professionalism that the members of local unions have come to expect." "The men and women in the MAP office are always eager to help members and treat them with the utmost respect. This is something that I have always believed is important, but have not observed in the union that I was previously affiliated with." |
